Graduate Assistant for the Department of Accounting
Fall 2013 and on-going
Degree-seeking graduate student in the College of Business and Economics (CBE). Graduate Assistants must be registered in the Masters of Science in Accountancy Degree program and must be enrolled in courses towards the completion of that graduate degree during the appointment period. Applicants must have the ability to work as a graduate tutor for students enrolled in the Principles of Financial Accounting (ACCT 210) and the Principles of Managerial Accounting (ACCT 211) as well as the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
As a University dedicated to engagement, service and the public good, the successful candidate will be expected to join faculty, staff, students and administrators in a commitment to these purposes.
The applicant should display an ease and comfort in interacting with undergraduate students. Good communication skills are essential.
The applicant should have an undergraduate degree in accounting and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the graduate program. The applicant should also be able to demonstrate academic excellence in accounting courses.
Under the general supervision of the faculty member, the Graduate Assistant will provide assistance in the instruction of students by conducting small discussion groups related to large lectures course activities, may assist in handling equipment, maintaining office hours to provide direct individual contact between student and graduate assistant, clarifying course material or course content for students. Will perform clerical or other routine tasks such as grading homework assignments, recording grades, etc.; assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials; participating in the evaluation of students’ work and other related tasks.
Current Graduate Assistant rate for an average of 10-20 hours per week.
