Recruitment and Outreach
The outcome of the research activities has been leveraged to two
workshops offered to around 30 PCC students in spring, 2005.
NCLR
Escalera High School Student Participation and Involvement:
Two-Body Simulation in MatLab and C++ (3 students were involved
during summer 2005).
• Sponsored the NCLR Escalera Project that allows Hispanic students from Garfield High School to participate in SERENADES researches in summers. One student has been admitted to CSULA. The PI will work with the university to offer the sponsorship at CSULA in a permanent basis.
-Scheduled to outreach to the neighboring high schools and community colleges in November, 2004. SERENADES faculty and students will present the distinct opportunity of space science education supported by the laboratory, and how the SERENADES educational pipeline can prepare the students for graduate studies and for future employments in aerospace industry. Also, the research outcomes in astronomical image processing, and engineering of JWST will be presented in an animated fashion. More than 200 students are expected to be outreached during the week.
• Invited to the MESA program in Alhambra High School to
encourage minority students to pursue degrees in Science and

System analysis of the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN).• Co-sponsored (with the SPACE Laboratory) a NASA Awareness Day recruitment event March 21-23, 2004. The SERENADES Laboratory has displayed its educational pipeline model, educational programs, and research activities during the exhibit sessions of this event.
• Hosted a session in the Satellite & Education Conference XVII. Two student technical presentations have been given. Also, the overview of the SERENADES program has been given by another student.
• Participated in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)
SPACE 2004 Conference & Exposition sponsored by Northrop Grumman,
September 28-30, San Diego. The SERENADES CD-ROMs which details the
research and educational activities are to be distributed to the attendees
in the conference.

Student technical presentations have been given. • Participated in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) SPACE 2005 Conference & Exposition sponsored by Raytheon, August 30 – September 1, Long Beach, CA. SERENADES students presented accepted publications at this conference. The SERENADES CD-ROMs which details the research and educational activities were distributed to the attendees in the conference
• Produced a CD-ROM of the SERENADES semi-annual technical workshop with a plain text abstract, and a MPEG video clip for each of the presentations given in the workshop.
