The Department of Psychology

For six months beginning the end of February, Dr. David Sam will be a visiting scholar in the Psychology Department. While he is here, he will be working with Dr. Jean Phinney on a joint research project, doing some writing, and possibly giving some seminars. Dr. Sam is a Senior Researcher at the Research Center for Health Promotion at the University of Bergen, Norway.

His research interests are in psychological acculturation and health related issues among immigrants. He has carried out a number of studies of acculturation among young immigrants in Norway. Dr. Sam is himself an immigrant to Norway from Ghana. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Bergen and is now a Norwegian National. He is in Los Angeles with his wife and three young children.
