NOTICE: Beginning Summer 2019, all courses will be offered exclusively on Canvas. Only Moodle archives will be available after Spring 2019. 


The attendance module allows you to keep track of student attendance throughout the quarter and allows the student to see their own attendance report to see days where they missed a class or go to class late.

How to Create an Attendance

  1. Log in to your course.
  2. Click on Gear menu on the top right of your course.
  3. Click Turn editing on, located on the dropdown menu.
  4. Find the section on your course homepage where the Attendance will be displayed.
  5. Click Add an activity or resource.
  6. Scroll down in the Add an activity or resource window.
  7. Click the button next to the Attendance activity.
  8. Click Add button at the bottom of the window.
  9. Add a name and select the maximum grade for the Attendance
  10. Click Save and display.

How to add your class sessions in Attendance

  1. Log in to your course.
  2. Find and click on the Attendance title.
  3. Click on Add session tab near the top.
  4. Fill out the appropiate information and click on Add when finished.
  • Date: This is the day of the first class session.
  • Time: The military time for the beginning and ending of class.
  • Repeat on: The days your class meets. For example (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) or (Tuesday and Thursday).
  • Repeat Until: The last day your class will meet.

How to take Attendance

  1. Log in to your course.
  2. Find and click on the Attendance title.
  3. Find the appropiate session for which you want to take attendance.
  4. Click on the triangle.

  5. Mark your students from the existing (Present, Late, Excused, Absent) when finished click on Save Attendance

How to Navigate the Attendance activity

You can use the attendance tabs to view the various attendance options or to display attendance sessions by month, week, day, or all sessions.

  1. Report: displays attendance report for each session along with the the number of times a student was present, late, excused, or absent.
  2. Export: allows you to download the Attendance report as an Excel file.
  3. Status set: allows you to change the attendance scales (Present, Late, Excused, Absent) or change point value for each scale.
