Archived Postings -- Winter Quarter, 2002

SUGGESTION: As an instructor, I often check out videos from the library to show in my classes. I have had a problem recently with videos not being rewound. I think the library should institute a policy that all videos are rewound before being placed back in circulation.

RESPONSE: Thank you for your suggestion. The library is about to launch a new Music and Media Center" on the third floor of library north, beginning April 2, 2002. The new facility will house all of the library's media (ideos, DVDs, CDs, etc.) We plan to institute the policy you suggest with the opening of the new Media Center -- VHS videos will be cleaned and rewound after each use before they are reshelved. (SB/HY-03/01/02)

SUGGESTION: I think it is a problem because it happened very often before that some students keep the books in their cubicles without checking out and hold them for a whole quarter. When the other students want to borrow these books with "not check out" status, but they could not find outthem on the shelf. when end of the quarter, these book will automatically appear.

The university library books are shareable resources for all students, the minor people utilize incorrectway to occupy the resources so that the students else could not utilize then, it is really unfair!!!

I will great appreciate you if you consider this matter carefully.

RESPONSE: Every three weeks the Library monitors perform cubicle checks. During this check they look through the books in the cubicle and remove any that are not checked out, if any are found they leave a violation notice to the cubicle patron. A copy of the violation notice is kept on file and If the patron continues to keep uncharged materials in the cubicle, cubicle privileges are revoked. We have not been finding large amounts uncharged materials lately, so your assumption that these books are being held in cubicles may be incorrect. While the vast majority of books in our collection are shelved correctly there are a number of reasons a small percentage of books may be out of place. If you are having problems locating a book, please go to the Loan Desk and make a search request. This will help us get you the book you need as soon as possible and make us aware when books are missing. (SV/HY - 01/15/02)
