In addition, the University Scheduling Office reserves instructional space for special events and supports compliance with Chancellor's Office enrollment system reporting requirements.

Searching for Online and Hybrid Courses
It is possible to search the Schedule of Classes for online and hybrid sections. The steps outlined below indicate how to search for online and hybrid sections by using Instruction Mode criteria.

- On the search page, select Cal State University, L.A. from the Institution drop-down menu. Select the appropriate term from the Term drop-down menu.
- To search for open sections only, verify that the Show Open Classes Only checkbox is checked.
- To search for sections regardless of whether they are open or closed, uncheck this box.

- A series of additional drop-down menus and fields will appear.
- To search for online sections, select Online from the Mode of Instruction drop-down menu.

- Click on the Search button located near the bottom of the page.
- If the search results will return more than 50 sections, you may receive a message indicating so. Click OK to continue.

- Review the list of returned sections.
- To view the details of a course section, click on the Class number.

Searching for Zero Cost Course Materials (ZCCM)
Searching the GET Schedule of Classes for Zero Cost Course Materials (ZCCM) Sections
Effective January 1, 2018 all CSU campuses are required to identify course sections that exclusively use digital course materials that are free of charge to students and which may have lost-cost print options. Sections meeting these qualifications are identified by the respective academic department and are referred to as Zero Cost Course Material (ZCCM) sections. The steps outlined below indicate how to search for these sections in the GET Schedule of Classes using the ZCCM course attribute. Download these instructions as a .PDF
- Point your browser to the online GET Schedule of Classes.
- On the search page, select Cal State University L.A. from the Institution drop-down menu. Select Spring Semester 2018, or the appropriate term, from the Term drop-down menu.
- a. To search for open course sections only, verify that the Show Open Classes Only checkbox is checked.
b. To search for sections regardless of whether they are open or closed, uncheck this box. - Click on the arrow next to Additional Search Criteria.
- A series of additional drop-down menus and fields will appear. If you want to search for ZCCM sections using additional criteria, for example, MATH sections that are also ZCCM, ZCCM sections on specific days of the week, etc.; select or enter that additional criteria from the related drop-down menu(s) or field(s).
- From the Course Attribute drop-down menu, select Zero Cost Course Materials. Then from the Course Attribute Value drop-down menu, also select Zero Cost Course Materials. Click Search.
- If the search results will return more than 50 sections, you will receive a message indicating so. Click OK to continue.
- The search results will return all sections that carry the ZCCM Course Attribute, and which meet the additional criteria you entered, if applicable. Below is an example of search results of ZCCM sections in EE (Electrical Engineering). To view the details of a section, click on the Class Number.
- Below is an exam of Class Details for this particular ZCCM section. Note that the Zero Cost Course Materials notation is also indicated on the Class Details page. To exit Class Details and return to the list of search results, click on the View Search Results button.

Searching for Courses by GE and University Requirement
It is possible to search the Schedule of Classes for course sections that satisfy General Education and University requirements. The steps outlined below indicate how to search for these sections using General Education and University Requirement course attributes.

Course Numbering System
Undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit courses are numbered as shown below.
0000-0999 | Subcollegiate courses (no credit toward academic degrees). |
1000-2999 | Lower division courses (freshman and sophomore level). |
3000-3999 | Upper division courses (junior and senior level) that earn no graduate credit. |
4000-4999 | Upper division courses (junior and senior level) that may earn credit toward graduate degrees. |
5000-5999 | Graduate courses for graduate students only. |
6000-6999 | Doctoral courses open only to students in the joint Ph.D. program in Special Education or any other approved doctoral program. |
7000-7499* | Courses intended primarily for lower division students. Not acceptable for degree or credential programs, but acceptable for professional advancement credit. |
7500-7999* | Courses intended primarily for upper division students. Not acceptable for degree or credential programs, but acceptable for professional advancement credit. |
8000-8999* | Highly specialized courses intended primarily for graduate students. Not acceptable for degree or credential programs, but acceptable for professional advancement credit. |
9000-9999 | Noncredit courses open to graduate students only (no credit toward degrees). |
Course Suffixes
Many courses have letter suffixes that appear right after the number. Although some indicate special uses of the course within a particular department or division, others are standard through the campus.
A,B,C,D,E | A course sequence in which A must be taken before B, B before C, etc., unless catalog descriptions indicate otherwise. |
H | Specifically designed for Honors College students. |
L | Lecture. |
M | Open only to students in the M.F.A. degree program in Art. |
N | Upper division course intended for students not majoring in that discipline; usually has different kinds of prerequisites; these may not count towards a major, but may count as an elective outside the major. |
P | Practicum, laboratory, or activity. |
R | Open only to conditionally classified graduate students. |

General Information
Event Scheduling Information
University Scheduling reserves instructional space (i.e. classrooms) for events and special programs, including but not limited to college and department meetings and extracurricular programs and activities.
Classroom Request GuidelinesRequests to reserve instructional space must be approved by the designated scheduler and submitted to University Scheduling no later than three (3) business days prior to the requested event date. To request reservation of instructional space, submit a completed Classroom Request Form to University Scheduling at scheduling@calstatela.edu. Requests will be processed with priority given to scheduled classes.
Students who wish to reserve instructional space on behalf of an organization or club must submit their request through Information & Event Services and be in compliance with the Guidelines for Campus Facility Reservation.
University Scheduling is unable to reserve instructional space for dates during Commencement, or for dates on which the campus will be closed.
Classroom Request FormThe Classroom Request Form is available to department and college schedulers via SharePoint (password protected).
Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
At Cal State LA, the safety and well-being of the students, faculty, staff and visitors is our foremost concern. The University Police Department strives to promote and maintain a campus environment conducive to academic achievement. In compliance with The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (formerly The Student Right To Know Act of 1990), campus security policy and crime statistics are available on the web. The report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, and off-campus jurisdictions that are contiguous, affiliated with, or adjacent to the property of Cal State LA. - General Building Evacuation Procedures
When a building evacuation alarm sounds (a repetitive bell/ horn sound) or when police order a building evacuated, take your valuables and walk quickly to the nearest marked exit. Proceed to a clear area; leave streets and walkways clear for emergency vehicles. Be alert and assist the disabled when necessary. If complete evacuation of the disabled is not possible, end of the corridor) and request assistance from University Police. Elevators must not be used to evacuate the building. Please see “EVACUATION POINTS” for designated assembly areas.
- Fire
Activate the nearest fire alarm box. Call University Police (ext. 911) immediately. Give your name, location, and a description of the fire. Follow the building evacuation procedures.
- Earthquake
If indoors, drop, cover and hold, get under a heavy table or desk and hold on, or sit or stand against an inside wall. Protect yourself at all times and be prepared for after shocks. If you need emergency help, call University Police (ext. 911). When the building evacuation alarm sounds, follow the procedures outlined above. If outdoors, move quickly away from buildings, utility poles and lines, and all other structures.

General Emergency Information
- University Police is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day to respond to any emergency which may develop. They can be reached by dialing 3-3700 or during an emergency by dialing ext. 911.
- Please familiarize yourself with the Emergency Survival Guide which is located on pages A1 through A6 of the University Telephone Directory. A telephone directory is available in most campus offices.
- On-campus Emergency telephones are located across the campus and will provide direct access to the University Police. (See the list above for locations).
- Please listen attentively to the emergency instructions given by your instructor at the beginning of the first meeting of your assigned classes. The instructor will inform you about the evacuation routes and the evacuation assembly areas for the buildings (see campus map) in which your classes are located. Assembly areas for emergency evacuations are listed on page A5 of the University Telephone Directory.
The pre-designated assembly areas are subject to change as practical based on the nature of the emergency event. During an emergency evacuation, building occupants are to go to the following assembly areas and await further instructions and/or information:

Information for Veterans
Under Title 38, U.S. code, chapters 30, 31, 32, 33, 35, 106, and applicable Veterans’ Administration regulations, all eligible veterans and persons must select and pursue a program of education (degree objective) or training to assist them in attaining an educational, professional, or vocational goal.
All eligible veterans or persons must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the university. (Contact the Registrar’s Office, Admin 401, for information and regulations governing satisfactory progress.) Failure to maintain satisfactory academic progress may subject the eligible veteran mandatory counseling by the Veterans’ Administration before benefits are reinstated. A veteran who is declared eligible for benefits under Veterans’ administration regulations must be matriculated and officially enrolled and must have had all prior training evaluated by the University.
Veterans’ ResponsibilitiesAll veterans are responsible for reporting their academic program each semester they attend. All additions or reductions in units or withdrawal from the university must be promptly reported to the Veterans Resource Center KH D147. Failure to report changes promptly constitutes violation of federal law and may subject the veteran to a fine, imprisonment, or both.
Dependents of California VeteransPrior to registration, students enrolled under this program must contact the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Division of Educational Assistance, 11000 Wilshire Blvd., Room 5203, Los Angeles, CA 90024, (310) 235-7155, to obtain the required authorization to receive benefits under the Cal-Vet program.
Disabled VeteransDisabled veteran-students attending Cal State LA must contact the Vocational Rehabilitation Division of the Veterans’ Administration, (310) 235-7588, prior to registration to obtain a letter of authorization for the current academic year. A V.A. vocational rehabilitation counselor is assigned to Cal State LA and can be contacted at the Veterans Resource Center KH D147 if questions or problems arise with veteran-students eligible under Chapter 31, Title 38, U.S. Code.
Post 9/11 GI Bill®This veteran’s educational assistance act is for individuals that served on active duty on or after September 10, 2001. Veteran-students must file an application to receive benefits under Chapter 33 directly with the VA. Those students attending under this program must submit a Request for Certification card to the Veterans Resource Center, KH D147 prior to payment of fees each semester.
