Children and their parents can experience the exhilarating rhythms of Latin jazz as award-winning trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez guides the audience on a dynamic exploration of its many facets. Bobby Rodriguez and the Latin Jazz Connection appears at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. as the first presentation of the Luckman Family Series. Tickets are a great value at $7 each or $20 for the series of four performances and a bonus performance by the American Youth Symphony. The lively performance by Bobby Rodriguez and the Latin Jazz Connection is preceded by interactive workshops for the whole family, which explore the world of jazz and Latin jazz.
Rodriguez, a seasoned and acclaimed performer and instructor, is widely recognized in Southern California schools for his educational and entertaining approach to music.
The Luckman Family Series continues later in the season with The Story of the Nutcracker, a delightful one-hour narrated introduction - through dance - to the holiday classic (December 20); A Winnie-the-Pooh Birthday Tail, the charming musical story of Eeyore's very special birthday, performed in spoken English and American Sign Language (February 14); and Animal Crackers, the ingenious creations of nationally renowned puppeteer Jim West whose puppets perform their antics to the music of Mozart, Strauss and Rossini (April 25).
As an added bonus, those who sign up for the entire series will receive a free ticket to see the American Youth Symphony, the youth training orchestra directed by the illustrious Mehli Mehta, on Sunday, February 15 at 8 p.m. It's a night of pure classical music performed by some of Los Angeles' most talented young performers.
