Cal State L.A. Develops International Business Communication Project
In Partnership With Pasadena Chamber of Commerce

Los Angeles, October 18, 1995 -- Pasadena businesses will have an opportunity to become globally competitive through a major grant recently awarded to California State University, Los Angeles to develop International Business Communication expertise. The grant, received by Professor Linda Beamer at Cal State L.A.'s School of Business and Economics, matches more than $125,000 from the United States Department Of Education (DOE) with resources from Cal State L.A. to equal $253,000. The DOE Grant was one of only 20 awarded nationally this year under the DOE Business and International Education program.

The grant will help launch various activities in Pasadena, including workshops for area businesses, annual colloquia with key speakers from Pacific Rim countries, a certificate program at CSLA in International Business, and internship programs for students.

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with CSLA's School of Business and Economics, will help identify businesses that can benefit from workshops and can use student interns who are fluent in Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and other languages. Pasadena Chamber of Commerce members will also have the opportunity to attend colloquia in order to consult with high-level government speakers from Pacific Rim countries who make the regulations for U.S. firms. The specially-designed workshops will cater to the individual needs of 20 companies as they reach out to foreign markets, undertake overseas joint ventures or establish global partnerships.

For information on the International Business Communication Project, call Professor Linda Beamer, CSLA Department of Marketing, (323) 343-2966.
