Receives Outstanding Student Leadership Award
Los Angeles, CA -- April 15, 1996 --- Kathleen Hansen, a mechanical engineering senior, at California State University, Los Angeles was recently selected to receive the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering's (IAE) 1995-96 Outstanding Student Leadership Award. Hansen was honored at the IAE Honors & Awards/Fellow Induction Banquet held in conjunction with National Engineers Week at the California Museum of Science and Industry. Several other student leaderships and outstanding engineers awards were presented that evening.
Hansen was nominated for this award on the basis of her outstanding student leadership in the School of Engineering and Technology, especially her exceptional organizational and management skills in her role as President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Chapter and as the Captain of the Mini-Baja Team in 1994-95. Hansen, who was an integral part of the revitalization of the off-road vehicle project after a ten-year hiatus, led the team to a sixth place finish at the Mini-Baja National Competition in June, 1995.
Recently, Hansen was selected to head CSLA's nationally recognized solar-powered electric-vehicle project. As student team leader for the Solar Eagle III, she is managing a team of more than 40 students from the beginning design and fabrication phases of the project to the final testing and actual racing phases of the project.
In addition, Hansen was a member of the student chapter of American Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). In 1994, she was awarded Outstanding Member Award in ASME and Outstanding Officer Award in SAE. Hansen plans to receive her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering this June.
