Selected As 1998-99
International Programs Participants

Los Angeles, California -- November 9, 1998 -- The California State University (CSU) International Programs recently selected eight California State University, Los Angeles students to participate in the 1998-99 Study Abroad program. The program, accommodating a variety of majors, is offered in cooperation with 70 recognized universities and other institutions of higher education in 16 countries around the globe.

The eight Cal State L.A. students chosen include La Verne resident Jasmine Colbert, English major, University of Aix-Marseille, France; Westminister resident Taylor N. Duvan, French major, University of Paris-Sorbonne, France; Los Angeles resident Pouya Jalali, Political Science major, University of Florence, Italy; Phoenix, Arizona resident James M. Shumate, Social Science major, University of Aix-Marseille, France; Pasadena resident Masresha Tadesse, Political Science major, University of Florence, Italy; Alhambra resident Jennifer Truong, Business Administration major, National Chengchi University, Taiwan; Los Angeles resident Tania M. Vasquez, Spanish major, University of Madrid, Spain; and Alhambra resident Tzu-Yug Wei, Japanese major, Waseda University, Japan.

Every year, the International Program offers qualified students from each University in the CSU system the opportunity to continue their studies overseas for a full academic year while they remain co-enrolled at their home campus through the International Programs. The students earn resident credit for all academic work completed while abroad, and remain eligible to receive any form of financial aid (other than work-study) for which they can individually qualify.

The primary mission of the CSU International Programs is to develop intercultural communication skills and international understanding among its students.
