Japanese-born classical guitarist Masakazu Ito will make his California debut at Cal State L.A.'s Luckman Theatre on Sunday, April 14 at 4 p.m. His concert will include works by Spanish composers Granados, Moreno Torroba and Tarrega and by Johann Sebastian Bach, Brazilian composer Villa Lobos and Japanese composer Yuquijiro Yocoh. For Tickets call (323) 343-6610.

Since his professional Tokyo debut in 1987, Ito has fast become recognized as one of the top young guitarists. He received a Master of Arts from the University of Denver where he studied under Maestro Ricardo Iznaola. Ito has toured the United States and Japan, and has been highly praised among critics.

In addition to numerous appearances as a soloist with orchestras, Ito has performed in several music festivals including the Kiyosato Spanish Music Festival in Japan, the Keystone Music Festival in Colorado and the acclaimed International Guitar Week at the University of Denver. Ito has brought home prizes from major competitions including the Andres Segovia International Guitar Competition, Tokyo International, Seto-Ohashi International, Guitar Foundation of America International and the MTNA-Wurlitzer Artist Competition.

Ito's friendship with Japanese superstar musician Kitaro gave a new dimension to his music; the outdoor duo concert they presented in 1991 in Colorado was one of the major achievements during his career. Ito is a faculty member at the University of Denver and Colorado State University.
