STAGES KLEZ-O-RAMA AT LUCKMAN THEATRE ON FEBRUARY 24
Los Angeles, CA -- February 2, 1996 -- Naomi Goldberg, artistic director of Los Angeles Modern Dance and Ballet (LAMD&B) will encore her evening of dances to klezmer music entitled Klez-O-Rama at 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 24 at Cal State L.A. Luckman Theatre. The premiere of this joyous program last August in Southern California was sold out.
Klez-O-Rama replaces the previously announced Love and Death scheduled for the same date at the Luckman Theatre.
Klez-O-Rama is a soulful riot of dance, driven by the energy and rhythms of the traditional Eastern European music known as klezmer. Goldberg has invited Junior Kultura Philippine Folk Arts of Pasadena, the San Pedro High School drill team called the Pirate Dancers, the Los Angeles Chinese Folk Dancers of Walnut and an adult folk dance group from Pasadena to join in the final selection.
LAMD&B is known for its provocative fusion of classical dance forms with explosive modern energy and rich colloquial movement. In Klez-O-Rama, Goldberg and her company treasure the ancient and honor the new. At Luckman Theatre on February 24, Goldberg's dance suites will be set to a variety of songs by the Klezmatics, the New York-based band which blends elements of jazz, rock and improvisation with folk tradition.
Luckman Theatre, part of the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, is located on the California State University, Los Angeles campus at the junction of the I-10 (San Bernardino) and I-710 (Long Beach) freeways. The Luckman's beautiful red brick structures house one of the newest performing arts theatres and fine arts galleries in Southern California. For ticket and additional information, call the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, (323) 343-6610.
