THE FIRST NORTHROP GRUMMAN ENDOWED CHAIR AT CAL STATE L.A.
What & Who:
The School of Engineering and Technology at California State University,
Los Angeles will host a reception to announce its establishment of the Northrop
Grumman Engineering Endowed Chair in Design and Manufacturing
and the recent appointment of the first endowed chair, Michael
J. Kelly. During the reception, the School will also acknowledge
its major contributors with the unveiling of the Donor Wall
of Honor. Remarks will be given by James M. Rosser, president,
Cal State L.A., and by Marvin Elkin, corporate vice president
of Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Wednesday, December 4, 1996, 3:30 - 5 p.m.
Where:
Cal State L.A. Engineering and Technology Bldg. A208. The
University is located at the Eastern Ave. exit, San Bernardino
(I-10) Fwy., at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Fwys.
Endowed Chair:
Michael J. Kelly, a Burbank resident, is an electrical engineer
with degrees from Marist College, Catholic University of America and University of Detroit.
Prior to coming to Cal State L.A., Kelly held administrative positions and taught at
several universities, worked at IBM for 17 years in a variety of management positions, and for
a period of almost three years, was the director of the Defense
Manufacturing Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Society
of Manufacturing Engineers' Education Foundation. His recent
activities include government- sponsored studies on electronic
manufacturing in Asia and on related policy implications.

The Northrop Grumman Endowed Chair in Design and Manufacturing
has been established in large part through a $200,000 challenge
grant previously received from the Northrop Grumman Corporation
-- a leading designer, systems integrator, and manufacturer in
defense and commercial aerospace. The challenge grant was recently
completed through fundings from manufacturing companies throughout
Southern California. Original financial support toward this engineering
endowed chair was received from the Arco Foundation, Hughes Aircraft
and The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation.
