Los Angeles, CA - Cal State L.A. undergraduate Jeanette Contreras (La Puente resident), a political science major in the pre-law program option, is one of only 21 students participating in this year's Congressional Fellowship Program of the Leon Panetta Institute. She will be interning in the office of the Honorable Maxine Waters, congresswoman representing the 35th District of California.
Contreras has previously completed a three-month long term in the office of State Assemblymember Gil Cedillo through Cal State L.A.'s Pat Brown Institute. Contreras' special interest is in the administration of local agencies, political processes and the crafting of legislation.
After the assignment with Assemblymember Cedillo, on recommendation of the Pat Brown Institute at Cal State L.A., she also became the University's first placement in the Panetta Institute's Congressional Fellowships at CSU Monterey Bay, from September through the November elections. Preceding her 10-week assignment in Washington DC, she participated in a public policy course taught by Panetta, former U.S. Congressman, Director of the Budget, and White House Chief of Staff.
