Cal State L.A. Hosts "Voces/Voices" Exhibition

What & Who:
California State University, Los Angeles Fine Arts Gallery features an exhibit of art work, entitled "Voces/Voices of the Community," designed by Chicano artists from Self-Help Graphics and curated by Alex Alverov.

Wednesday, January 17 - Thursday, February 15, 1996
Gallery Hours: Mon. - Thurs., 12 noon - 5 p.m.
Opening reception: Wednesday, January 17, 4-7 p.m.

Cal State L.A. Fine Arts Gallery, Fine Arts Building. The University is located at the Eastern Ave. exit, San Bernardino (I-10) Fwy., at the interchange of 10 and 710 Fwys.

This historic show is the first time Self-Help Graphics will exhibit all three workshops together: serigraph, etching/lino cut and monoprint. (1) The striking immediacy of the monoprints by Yolanda Gonzalez and others give a mercurial brilliance that is not seen in other techniques. (2) The new etching/lino cut workshop brings the radical tradition of Posado into the current work, including knockout pieces by Carlos Gonzalez Castro. (3) The serigraphs feature the splendor and power of new and seldom shown works by Yrena Cervantes, Alfredo de Batuc, Frank Romero, and Miguel Angel Reyes among many others.

Free to the public. For more information, call Delilah Montoya, Fine Arts Gallery Director, at (323) 343-4054.
