      OSEP Federal Grant Award

      Preparing Future Educators to Use and Teach Technology

      For qualifying students enrolled in the Education Specialist Credential in Visual Impairment program at California State University, Los Angeles, federal grant funding is available to qualified candidates. The federal grant titled “Preparing Future Educators of the Blind and Visually Impaired to Use and Teach Technology” is offered by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), U.S. Department of Education. This competitive OSEP grant award will assist candidates with tuition and expenses while pursuing an Education Specialist Credential in Visual Impairment. 

      To be eligible to apply for the OSEP grant formal admissions to California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) and the Charter College of Education (CCOE) is required. Applications are accepted in the fall of each year. The OSEP grant program is competitive and a very limited number of highly qualified candidates will be accepted each year.

      For candidates who accept the OSEP grant funding a payback provision is required. The payback provision requires students to work in the field of visual impairment for two years for each year of funding received. Additional requirements of candidates receiving funding under the federal grant include: 

      1. Attendance of mandatory orientation meetings, 
      2. Regular and frequent correspondence with the VI program coordinator, Dr. Kamei-Hannan 
      3. Completion of technology modules, and 
      4. Fieldwork in assistive technology.
