Teaching Associate in Theatre Studies
Beginning Spring 2019
Degree-seeking graduate student in Departments compatible with Theatre and Television Film & Media Studies Teaching Associates must be currently enrolled in or admitted to a CSULA graduate degree program. Applicants should possess strong oral and written communication skills, have the ability to perform well within an academic environment, have the potential for excellent teaching, and demonstrate an interest in working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
Candidates must meet the following specific requirements:
1) Must possess a bachelor’s degree in any field
2) Must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA in their graduate program
3) Must complete an orientation program in the week prior to the first teaching assignment
4) Must participate in the training workshops conducted by the Supervising Faculty
5) Must be able to work effectively and collegially with other TAs, Supervising Faculty, and the Chair of the Department
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
The ability to instruct and evaluate students in lower division level courses in the Theatre B.A. and/or General Education (TA 1500, TA 1520, TA 2760).
Students will be selected as Teaching Associates based on the quality of their academic performance, their potential for teaching, and their demonstrated ability or potential to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty. All applications will be reviewed by the supervising faculty, and Department Chair. All qualified applications will be ranked. Numerical rankings and openings available will determine hiring offer.
Teaching Associates are expected to instruct and evaluate student work in their assigned classes and fulfill the stated goals and requirements of the courses to which they are assigned, to hold office hours, and to participate in mid-term and end-of-term course and program assessment activities. In addition, Teaching Associates are expected to collaborate in a workshop environment to create common course syllabi and instructional materials.
Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
