Welcome to Spring Semester 2018!
Dean’s Message

Photograph of the Dean of the CCOE, Dr. Cheryl Ney

I hope your winter break was a restful, renewing, and re-energizing time for you. After our winter “time away,” we can all return to our work ready to enter into this semester with the energy, passion, and vision that embody the faculty, staff, and students of the CCOE.

Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote, “We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right.” And there is much work to be done in Education here in East Los Angeles and nationwide. Education is a civil right and the cornerstone of a democratic society. I know that everyone in the CCOE is collectively engaged in this important work.

Let us rise to King’s challenge to creatively use time for the opportunity to do right. As you explore our website, check out the upcoming CCOE events – like the upcoming Education Career Fair, the Mental and Behavioral Health Conference, and the Gear Up 4LA College Experience Day – find ways to connect with and take part in the creativity in action at the CCOE community.

The CCOE now has a YouTube Channel!

Dr. Sharon H. Ulanoff, Professor of Education in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction in the Charter College of Education

Dr. Sharon H. Ulanoff, Professor of Education in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction in the Charter College of Education (CCOE), was bestowed the President’s Distinguished Professor Award during the 2017 University Convocation at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on August 17, 2017. A President’s Distinguished Professor Award is presented to a previous outstanding professor recipient and recognizes the faculty member’s superlative teaching and exceptional commitment to students, as well as professional accomplishments and services.

Dr. Ulanoff, who is also a Cal State LA alumna and the co-director of the Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership in the CCOE, is well respected for her work in bilingual/multicultural and literacy education.

This is the second faculty member in recent years to be named for this honor, with Dr. Andrea Zetlin, a Professor from the CCOE Division of Special Education and Counseling, similarly honored in 2015.
