2007 Summer Transportation Institute


Dear High School Student,                                                                              Spring 2007


Summer is here, and there is no better time to think about your future!


The College of Engineering, Computer Science and Technology at Cal State L.A. is once again excited to offer a no cost program called the Summer Transportation Institute (STI). 


Our STI is a great way to learn more about a variety of careers and options within Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology.  Get involved and have fun with your education and career decisions!


The Summer Transportation Institute exposes you to new ideas and concepts, such as:


  • Careers in Transportation & SAT preparation courses for college

  • Computer training & Computer-Aided Design (CAD)

  • Preparatory sessions in math, physics, writing, study skills, and college preparation

  • Student projects such as Solar Powered vehicles, Pop Bottle Rockets, Towers & Bridges, Paper Airplane and Foil Floater.

  • Lots and lots of field trips (including highway construction sites, City of LA Department of Transportation, the U.S. Coast Guard, Metrolink, LA airports and the Long Beach port)

If you are a high school student who meets the following requirements, then this program is for you!

  • You are going to be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade

  • You have completed Pre-algebra

  • You have at least a 2.0 GPA

  • You are interested in engineering, computer science, technology and/ or transportation


The dates and times are as follows:

Dates: Monday, July 9 through Friday, August 3

Days:  Monday through Friday

Times: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.


Students admitted to the 2007 STI will receive scholarships to cover the cost of tuition, field trips, workshops, and exercises, facility usages, and other costs associated with the program.  If interested, please complete the enclosed application along with a copy of your transcripts and two letters of recommendation, and return it by Friday, June 9, 2007.  The number of students that will be accepted for the institute will be limited, we urge you to return your application as soon as possible.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.  We will see you this summer!
