Cal State LA Department of Geosciences and Environment

What can a Geosciences degree do for you?

Students graduating with a BS in Geology or Environmental Geoscience are prepared for professional careers in fields such as engineering geology, hydrogeology, environmental geology, and petroleum geology. Entities that hire geologists and environmental geoscientists include environmental and engineering consulting firms, local/state/federal government geological agencies, water-related agencies (e.g. regional water quality boards), geotechnical firms, and utility companies

Students graduating with a degree in Geography have opportunities in a variety of professions. Geography is an ideal discipline for the individual who is interested in cultural and physical environment and who enjoys field work, archival research, and travel. Geographers practice their knowledge and skills in a diversity of ways, ranging from researching urban and environmental dynamics to using computers and satellite imagery to analyze environmental and social phenomenon that are of relevance to the society.
