California State University, Los Angeles produced the first graduates of the Strategic Language Initiative, Korean Program this year. From 2007, California State University, Los Angeles has taken charge of the federally-funded Korean program, which is part of a project to teach strategic languages. The graduation ceremony was held on August 22, 2008. The eleven students from the first cohort at CSULA had been offered Korean language courses and mentorship related to their majors, and has completed the year-long SLI Korean program by finishing their four-week study-abroad project at Korea University in Summer 2008. The dean of Arts and Letters, Dr. Terry Allison, the chair of the Modern Languages Department, Dr. Matsunaga, Korean faculty members, CSULA staffs and the students of the second cohort joined in the ceremony.
