Having completed 21 years of teaching and service at Humboldt State University, I am a new professor serving as the department chair in the Psychology Department at the California State University, Los Angeles. I am committed to promoting the excellence of teaching and learning and providing the best service to our students. I view teaching as a service provided by me to my students and this service is available when my students find it necessary. I believe the role of a professor is to promote the students' learning potential through effective classroom teaching and research supervision.
My teaching interest is in areas of biological psychology and health psychology. I have taught courses such as introductory psychology, introduction to behavioral neuroscience, advanced behavioral neuroscience, health psychology, stress and wellness, psychophysiology, drug use and abuse, and advanced psychobiology.
I am interested in conducting research in emotion perception and expression and physiological indices of emotion using facial EMG recording and functional MRI mapping methods.
