Enroll in our new teacher preparation courses!


CSULA Undergraduate students who plan to enroll in early field experience courses, (as part of their requirements for the elementary subject matter preparation programs or single subject matter preparation programs) are required to complete the full Certificate of Clearance process as well as school district requirements before enrolling in such a course:

Part 1

I.  Visit the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website at

  1. Print 3 copies of the Live Scan Form (41-LS.pdf) from “Quick Hits” at the bottom of the page. (You may also pick up a form at Lib, Palmer Wing 1040A.)

II. Visit the Department of Public Safety (Building C) once you have read the information below.

  1. Call the CSULA Live Scan Hotline at (323)343-6100 and listen to the complete recording to make sure that you have all the documents needed.

  2. Live scan services are provided M-F,10:00am-2:00pm on a walk-in basis. Be there early!

  3. To be eligible for fingerprint submission , the following criteria apply:

1.  Possession of a valid Social Security Number.
2.  Possession of a valid (not expired!) CA Driver's License or CA State ID.
3.  A Cal State LA student ID.
4.  A completely filled out live scan form 41-LS.
5.  A check or money order for $68.00 dollars.

III. You must complete the Live Scan process before continuing to Part 2.

Part 2

I.   Visit the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website at

II.  Click the “Look Up a Credential” link.

III. Click the “Direct Application (Non-recommendation only)” link and fill out form.

IV.  Submit payment of $29.50 by using a VISA or MasterCard debit or credit card.

V.  Visit regularly to monitor your progress.

  2. Click “Search for a Teacher’s Application Status and Credentials Held” link.

Part 3

I. Visit the Student Health Center or your family physician to complete the TB Skin Test.

  1. Visit the Student Health Center during Clinic hours. TB Testing Clinics occur every Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 -4:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. No appointment is necessary.

  2. Students who are given a TB skin test must return in two or three days to have their skin tests checked by a (SHC) nurse.

  3. Safely keep the written proof of your test results as you will need them when visiting different school districts.

Part 4

I.  Speak to an advisor in your department to help you choose an early field experience course.

  1. Each early field experience course has an onsite observation requirement.

  2. Check the field work requirements for the course that you have chosen before enrolling.

II.  Enroll in the early field experience course that you have chosen.

III. Make a copy of the certificate of clearance, live scan, and TB Test.  Bring copies to TPAC office.

III. Visit the TPAC office at Library, Palmer Wing 1040A to arrange the hours of observation   required for your early field experience courses.
