A CAPS scholar will receive scholarships from Fall to Summer the following year, from sophomore year to senior year(s). Actual awards will be based on the demonstrated needs.
- Application Eligibility
- Must be a rising sophomore student in Civil Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), or Mechanical Engineering (ME)
- Be in need of financial help (defined by the U.S. Department of Education rules for need-based FAFSA)
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
- Maintaining Eligibility (Each Term)
- Remain enrolled in Civil Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), or Mechanical Engineering (ME).
- Be in need of financial help (defined by the U.S. Department of Education rules for need-based FAFSA).
- Register for and complete a minimum of 12 units counting towards your degree requirements.
- Must make satisfactory progress towards your degree - receive at least a 3.0 term GPA, maintain a minimum overall Cal State LA GPA of 3.0 with a minimum 2.7 Major GPA (courses required for your major, including math, science, and technology courses.
- Must actively participate in the program activities schedule permitting
- Must exhibit proper communication etiquette (clear, timely, and respectful)
- Program Activities:
- Must meet an assigned Mentor+ advisor
- Complete lower division required major courses including Math and Physics during the first scholarship year
- Attend Cohort Gatherings
- Attend Professional Development Events (field Trips, seminars, conferences, and etc.)
- Participate in ECST Social Media Activities

- The online application will ask you to enter basic information and upload an essay. The essay should be a one-page (less than 500 words) essay describing 1) how being awarded this scholarship would impact your life and 2) what your interests, motivation for study and career goal are.
