The Financial Aid Office reviews student enrollment status on the census date at the end of the third week of the quarter. The census date for the 2013 spring quarter is April 22, 2013. Student enrollment dropping below half time on that date will result in a reduction or cancellation of aid. Students will be billed for overpayment of funds. (NOTE: Some awards require full time enrollment. See below). Half time for an undergraduate student is 6 units; 4 units for graduate students. The following changes will be made for students who are not enrolled full time at census date:
Pell Grant - If you are originally awarded aid based on full time enrollment, your Pell grant will be reduced by 25% for 9-11 units, and 50%, for 6-8 units. Pell Grant will be reduced by 75% if you are enrolled in less than 6 units. In some cases, Pell Grant may have to be canceled if enrollment drops below 6 units.
Cal Grant - If you are originally awarded aid based on full time enrollment; your Cal grant will be reduced by 25% for 9-11 units, and 50%, for 6-8 units. If your enrollment drops below 6 units, your Cal Grant will be cancelled ($0) for the quarter.
Federal Loans - you may be billed for federal loans (Subsidized Direct Loan, Unsubsidized Direct Loan, Parent PLUS, Graduate PLUS and Federal Perkins Loan) if you are enrolled less than half-time at the end of third week of the quarter.
Once aid is adjusted, it will not be reinstated automatically if your unit count increases after the census date. If you complete additional units after the census date, please notify the Financial Aid Office immediately. Cal Grant, work-study and loans can be reinstated. Pell Grant will not be reinstated, if units are added after the census date.
