Helpful Resources for Students
Importance of GE
General Education has been described as giving you a well balanced education. Alternately, it has been also described as giving you a competitive edge by developing core intellectual proficiencies, better interpersonal skills, and more cultural awareness. At Cal State LA, we believe that both are true and that you maximize your education when you design your GE to reflect your interests and complement your major's requirements. Here you will find links to the different advisement resource people and databases on our campus.
Intentionally Planning your GE
What is intentional? Our interpretation is that you include your GE courses when you develop your academic plan: but not as "any humanities course" but as "a course in humanities in the development of a musical tradition" for example, if you are interested in music. Then you might select one or two courses that address your interests. You can even have a list of GE courses that You can draw from to fit specific time requirements.
