The Cal State LA School of Nursing faculty, staff, students and University are celebrating the recently named Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing

What a difference a year makes! We are now the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing! The generous gift from Drs. William and Patricia Chin have demonstrated their confidence in the continued commitment of faculty and staff in sustaining a quality nursing program. It is our mission to prepare health care practitioners to meet the health needs of the diverse communities we serve.

Moreover, we foster intellectual curiosity and critical mindfulness that encourages pluralistic thought and acceptance. For our efforts, the School of Nursing recently received the national Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) 2017 award. Not only do we champion diversity and excellence locally but globally. The Chin School of Nursing was instrumental in planning and supporting the 2016 Haiti Nursing Foundation Gala to sustain and grow Haiti's nursing program fiscally.

Patricia A. School of Nursing (SON) is at the forefront of innovative changes that emerge in healthcare and nursing education. Our BSN programs continue to maintain a 95-100% RN NCLEX pass rate, and the U.S. News & World Report (2016) continues to rate our Master's degree program among the top nursing programs in the nation.

We are purposeful in developing an expansive list of community, service, and academic partnerships to facilitate student enrichment and engagement for the public good. These community partners are also our SON Advisory Board, who keep us apprised of changes, identify challenges, and foster solutions for continual student enrichment. We have established academic-practice partnerships, set transition to practice programs, and have created pathways for preparing nurses for developing roles in a continually evolving healthcare system. To that end, we have successfully hired two new, outstanding, and diverse tenure track faculty for the 2017-18 academic year.

Finally, after four years preparing for the transition from quarters to semesters, we successfully completed the 2016-17 academic year. Incredibly, the transition was much less painful than anticipated. We relished the opportunity to reassess and change curricular content and enhance pedagogy.

Students have affirmed our efforts and acknowledge that semesters allow for slower-paced mastery learning. Now, even as we prepare for our upcoming BRN approval visit, our faculty continue to be dedicated and committed to our students and our purpose.
Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing is committed to equipping students with the knowledge, expertise, confidence, and money to influence healthcare in a meaningful way for the greater good.
