Library of Congress Classification System

About Library of Congress Subject Headings

Most materials (books, journals, etc.) in the library are classified according to the Library of Congress (LC) classification system.  LC assigns call numbers, which we use to shelve the books, by subjects.

We use LC Subject Headings in our online catalog.  Learning to use them can help you save time and find books you might not get using only keyword searches.

Try this:

* Find a book that is relevant to your project by doing a keyword search in the
  library catalog

* Choose one or more of the results and click the title to see the full catalog

* Look at the blue “subject links” and click on them to find other books that are
   in the same subject areas
