Strengthen Teachers Education in Engineering and Research (STEER)

STEER Schedule, Summer 2003

 

 

Week 1: Introduction of the STEER Program

The principal investigator welcomes the participants to CSULA and introduces the Co-Investigators, and research assistants. In addition, the principal investigator presents the purpose and duration of the program as well as assessment requirements. STEER Co-PIs make presentations related to the research activities conducted at the CSULA/CSULB laboratories. Participants have the opportunity to visit the laboratories and other facilities located at the CSULA and CSULB campuses.

 

Week 2: Focus Group Discussions and Assignments

Co-PIs meet with the participants in focus group settings to discuss the research experiences at the participating universities and identify the participants' interests and educational backgrounds. Based on these meetings the participants are assigned to specific activities associated with the research laboratories. Faculty mentors and student assistants hold individual meetings with the participants to introduce them to tasks to be completed by the end of the program.

 

 

Week 3-4: Performance of Research Activities

The STEER participants under the supervision of the faculty and research assistants start working on the assigned research topics. Several workshops are offered to facilitate knowledge related to software packages, technical presentations, and proposal preparation.

 

Week 4-5: Preparation for Final Presentation/Report

The STEER participants under the supervision of the faculty and research assistants start working on the documentation of their summer experience. PowerPoint presentation techniques, webfolio design, and report preparation are among the topics that the Co-PIs present/teach the STEER participants.

 

Final Presentation (August 29, 2003)

The STEER participants in the presence of the Co-PIs, student assistants, and external visitors present their projects.
