Freshman Overnight Orientation

Cal State LA is pleased to offer an optional Overnight Orientation program this year!

Freshmen who choose to participate in this program will attend a full day of programming on Thursday, July 27th, sleep over in University Housing that evening, and attend a half day of programming on Friday, July 28th. The fee for Overnight Orientation is $96.20, and includes:

  • Activities
  • Meals (lunch and dinner on 7/27; breakfast and lunch on 7/28)
  • Accommodations for one night: double occupancy (two students per room)

Participation is open to all freshmen, regardless of major/college; capacity is limited, so sign-ups are first come, first served. Overnight Orientation is designed to be an enhanced experience for new incoming students, providing an opportunity for students to bond with each other and learn even more about their new campus home. Because of this, accommodations for parents/family support members/guests will not be available.

Signing up for Overnight Orientation is a two-step process:

  1. Select Overnight Orientation from the list of available dates on the reservation system (while spaces are available). The $96.20 fee will be due at this time, and needs to be paid in order to confirm the reservation.
  2. Complete the supplemental application. The application will be emailed to you. Failure to complete the application may result in the cancelation of your reservation. In this event, the fee of $96.20 will be refunded, and the student will need to return to the reservation system and select a new date Orientation date.


Overnight Orientation FAQs

Can I select my own roommate?
Roommate assignments will be random. We want you to take this opportunity to meet someone new! However, if you strongly prefer to room with someone, and you have both registered and completed the supplemental application, then your request will be taken into consideration, though it will not be guaranteed.
What is included in the room?
Bed linens (sheets, pillow, and pillow cases) and toilet paper will be included.
You will need to bring:
Bath linens (towel, washcloth)
Toiletries (toothbrush, deodorant, etc.)
What if I have dietary restrictions?
You can enter any dietary restrictions on the supplemental application. Every effort will be made to accommodate all dietary restrictions that are noted on the application, but please be aware that our campus facilities have certain limitations. If there are any issues or concerns with meeting your documented needs, we will contact you. If you do not document your needs, we may not be able to accommodate you.
Can I check-in early, or check-out late?
Unfortunately, no: early check-in and late check-out are not available. Check-in will be from 8-9 am on Thursday, July 27th, and check-out will be from 1-2 pm on Friday, July 28th. All transportation must be arranged with these time frames in mind, including airfare/airport transportation, or rides to/from campus.
