Cal State L.A. Faculty Selected For 2015 Summer Online Course Development Initiative

The College of Professional and Global Education (PaGE) in partnership with the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce the Cal State L.A. faculty selected as participants in the 2015 Summer Online Course Development Initiative. While this was only the first year of this initiative, PaGE and The Center for Effective Teaching and Learning received many excellent proposals, only some of which they were able to accept.
Speaking about the importance of this project for the university, Justin Cassity, Associate Dean for the College of Professional and Global Education stated, “This initiative represents an important milestone in the university’s efforts to develop online offerings that meet the needs of Cal State L.A.’s student population. We have the opportunity with this initiative to develop high quality, academically rigorous courses that fit into the demanding schedules of our students.”

To ensure the highest quality in online course development, a team of instructional designers will work with faculty, following the standards developed by Quality Matters, a leader in quality assurance for online education and student learning, to identify and develop content and activities appropriate for online learners. The instructor’s expertise will be vital not only for course content but also to create activities and assignments that promote active learning – a necessary component for online learners. Faculty participants will receive a course conversion stipend of $5,000.00 for developing the course. Classes that are redesigned for online delivery for the self-support Summer Session may be utilized by departments during the state-supported academic year.
