Housing Resident Parking

  • Students living on-campus who wish to bring a vehicle must purchase a Resident Parking Permit.
  • Housing Resident Parking Permits are only valid for parking in the north section of Lot 5 and Paseo Rancho Castilla East of Mariondale Ave. to Hellman Bridge only.  Residential Permits are not valid in student lots.
  • Housing residency must be confirmed by Housing and Residence Life prior to purchasing a Residential Permit online at calstatela.aimsparking.com
  • Overnight parking for resident guests is allowed in Lot 5 with a valid parking permit obtained from the parking pay stations in that lot.
  • For complete parking regulations and parking lot information visit our Parking Regulations Page.

First-Time Freshmen

First-time freshmen who live on-campus in university housing, are prohibited from purchasing a resident parking permit, which means that you will not be allowed to bring a vehicle to campus. There are no parking options within the surrounding community as local city streets are reserved for property owners and require an official city permit. It is important that all students comply with local parking regulations and not attempt to park your vehicle within the city boundaries. Information on sustainable commuting programs such as Metrolink and U-Pass (a semester Metro transit pass) is available by visiting the Transportation Services Page or by calling (323) 343-5277.

First-time freshmen can apply for an exemption request to this policy if they can demonstrate a compelling need or exceptional hardship by not being able to purchase a resident parking pass. To request an exemption, complete the Exemption Request Form online. Please note appropriate justification is required for review and approval. Exemption approvals are not guaranteed and students must obtain official approval from Parking and Transportation prior to purchasing a Resident Permit. We will begin accepting Housing Permit Exemption Requests for the 2021-2022 school year starting June 14, 2021.

Second Year Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students

Resident students confirmed to reside on-campus for the upcoming 2021 Summer Session (May 22nd – August 14th) may purchase a resident parking permit online at calstatela.aimsparking.com.

All resident parking permits must be linked to the correct license plate number. Failure to register the plate number or the correct plate number may be a plausible cause for citation. Vehicles parked in unauthorized parking areas/zones are subject to citation and/or tow-away. Overnight parking of vehicles on University property is prohibited, with exception of University on-campus housing resident students parked in the designated resident parking areas and who have a resident parking permit. Vehicles in violation of this section may be cited and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

Please review the parking rules and regulations prior to purchasing your permit and parking on campus.
