Information for CSULA students in PRESTIGE

In a time when classes are in short supply, those admitted to PRESTIGE will be guaranteed two or all three of these lower division GE courses: Chemistry 158/159 (Block B2 with lab), English 101 (Block A1), and Math 109 (Block A4).

Being part of the PRESTIGE learning community will allow you to:

  • Learn about the environment - our effect on it, and how it affects us - from different perspectives
  • Learn to effectively question what you see and read in the media
  • Take classes with the same students, leading to better support for learning and stronger friendships
  • Develop skills that increase your competitiveness for jobs: critical thinking, problem solving, communication
  • Gain insight into the connections between disciplines
  • Have guaranteed enrollment in required GE courses
  • Participate in free supplemental workshops and activities designed to help you do well in and enjoy your classes

You must be eligible to take English 101 and/or Math 109 to be considered, depending on which option you choose.

Key elements of the PRESTIGE program (cohorting of students; thematic linkages between courses; connections to community) have been shown to increase student success in college, which is why they are part of the program

There are three enrollment options in Spring, 2013:

CME Option (12 units of required GE courses):                    Chemistry 158 (GE Block B2); Math 109 (GE Block A4); English 101 (GE Block A1)

CE Option (8 units of required GE courses):                    Chemistry 158 (GE Block B2); English 101 (GE Block A1)
