Inclusive Excellence @ Cal State LA
What is Inclusive Excellence?
From AAC&U: https://www.aacu.org/making-excellence-inclusive
“Making excellence inclusive is thus an active process through which colleges and universities achieve excellence in learning, teaching, student development, institutional functioning, and engagement in local and global communities.”
“The action of making excellence inclusive requires that we uncover inequities in student success, identify effective educational practices, and build such practices organically for sustained institutional change.”
With a $1 million grant from Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) the campus HHMI Leadership Team comprised of faculty from across various colleges will be working in collaboration with the AACU Inclusive Excellence Commission and Institute for Urban Education to create and develop a culture that supports our Strategic Priority Area of becoming a Welcoming and Inclusive Campus.
The leadership team is currently in planning stages and focusing on three primary areas
- Equity Mindedness and Inclusive Pedagogy via Faculty professional development activities – A collaboration with Center for Urban Education @USC and CETL @ Cal State LA
- Sci-CAFÉ: A web-based portal and App that will be resource hub and community of practice for all students and faculty
- Institutional Change: Review of policies and procedures that inadvertently serve as barriers to student success
