Preeminent Chicano artist in the contemporary art world and quintessential Latino artist from Los Angeles, GRONK developed his imagery from early experiences in downtown and East Los Angeles. Unlike more traditional Mexican and Mexican-American artists, he eschewed historical formats such as political and religious mural imagery for a more irreverent view of contemporary life. GRONK has presented performances, consulted in films such as Walt Disney's "Fantasia 2" and designed numerous sets for such venues as Paris Jazz Festival and the Los Angeles Opera Company. His paintings and drawings capture candid views and intimate feelings of the many emotions of life.
Free to the public. For more information, call the CSLA Fine Arts Gallery at (323) 343-4040.
