the Santa Ana Wind, Fire Protection and Fire Ecology
Yahoo! News reported yesterday that wildfires driven by hot Santa Ana wind flashed into gigantic waves of flame devouring entire neighborhoods and choking the sky over Southern California with smoke and ash. Cal State L.A. has experts who can address the damage and concerns.
Associate Professor of Geography; Ph.D., University of Manitoba
Dr. LaDochy is a climatologist and meteorologist, with special interests in thunderstorm phenomena and synoptic climatology. He also conducts research in air pollution, weather forecasting, lightning and urban climates.
John A. Gamon
Associate Professor of Biology; Ph.D., UC Davis
Dr. Gamon is a plant ecophysiologist, with a background in ecology, plant physiology, botany and remote sensing. As an ecophysiologist, he is primarily interested in the effects of environmental factors on plant physiology, structure and productivity. Most of his research involves studies of photosynthetic physiology, and recently he has been applying remote sensing technology to evaluate plant productivity and physiological performance. His recent research topics have included fire ecology and impacts of air pollution on vegetation.
Ray O. Shackelford
Associate Professor of Technology; B.A., M.A., Cal State L.A.
With 35 years of experience, Professor Shackelford has knowledge in all phases of fire protection. He provides expertise in fire protection service to fire departments and agencies throughout the country including the U.S. Fire Service. He is a past president of the San Bernardino County Fire Chiefs and a member of the National Fire Protection Association.
