Alumni gathered at Cal State LA to reminisce and celebrate the University at the Class of 1968 50th Reunion and Half-Century Club Induction for the classes of 1947 through 1968.

Throughout the daylong event, hosted by the Cal State LA Alumni Association on September 21, guests enjoyed guided tours and mingled with current students and staff before a special luncheon celebrating their alma mater.

“Students today may seem different than you were—because of technology and social media, because of cultural shifts in our society,” President William A. Covino said to the guests gathered in the Golden Eagle Ballroom. “But students today have the same fundamental dreams, hopes and goals that you had, and Cal State LA is to them what it was to you: a place where extraordinary change takes place and where new futures are written.”

The event also featured remarks from Cal State LA Alumni Association Board President Dwight Nakata, who praised the accomplishments of the University’s alumni community.

"Today, like the more than 245,000 alumni who preceded them, our students pursue their education at a University defined by opportunity, access and academic excellence," Nakata said. "That's because Cal State LA is—first and foremost—a University that is dedicated to public education and its transformative impact on students and their families."

Alumni also explored an exhibition on display in the Luckman Fine Arts Gallery showcasing artists who emerged during Los Angeles' vibrant art scene in the 1990's, viewed a library exhibition highlighting the work of Cal State LA alumnus and renowned actor Edward James Olmos, and cheered on the men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball teams in their home games.

Many will return to the University on October 12 for the Alumni Awards Gala on October 12, which will honor the accomplishments of our distinguished alumni, including MGA Entertainment founder and CEO Isaac Larian, ’78, the 2018 Alumnus of the Year honoree.
