Cal State LA nursing master's program among the top in the nation

March 24, 2016

Cal State LA’s nursing master’s degree program is one of the best in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report 2017 “Best Grad Schools.”

Cal State LA is one of only two public universities in Southern California, and the only CSU campus, listed in the top 100.

Since 2000 when it began surveying nursing graduate schools, U.S. News and World Report has listed Cal State LA’s nursing graduate program among the top five programs in California.

The School of Nursing, which is in the College of Health and Human Services, comprises about 500 undergraduate nursing students, 175 graduate students and 11 tenure-track faculty members.

The graduate program offers an option in nursing education, and nurse-practitioner options in primary and acute adult, family and psychiatric/mental health.

Cal State LA launched its joint Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) pilot program in fall 2012. The third DNP graduating class will be hooded during the Commencement ceremony for the College of Health and Human Services on Thursday, June 9, at 3 p.m., in the University Athletics Stadium.

The School of Nursing’s programs are approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and receive continuing accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

U.S. News evaluates graduate schools on criteria such as grade-point averages of incoming students, acceptance rates and employment outcomes of graduates. The rankings methodology varies across disciplines to account for differences in each graduate program.
