Thousands of Cal State LA students to graduate during Commencement 2019

About 6,000 Cal State LA students will be donning caps and gowns as they receive their diplomas during Commencement 2019, which runs from May 20 to 24. 

Commencement will feature 15 separate ceremonies in the University Gymnasium in the Billie Jean King Sports Complex. Thousands of guests are expected to attend the events. Graduating students will have their names called out as they walk across a stage and shake hands with Cal State LA President William A. Covino. 

“Commencement is a monumental day for our students, their families and the communities we serve,” Covino said. “Cal State LA is proud of the impressive accomplishments of the Class of 2019.” 

A number of speakers will be featured at Commencement, including Antonia Hernández, president and CEO of the California Community Foundation. She will also will be receiving an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the College of Arts and Letters ceremony on Monday, May 20. Haben Girma, a champion for equal opportunities for people with disabilities, will speak at the Charter College for Education ceremony, also on May 20. Girma was the first deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School and was named a White House Champion of Change by President Barack Obama. 

University parking is free for all Commencement ceremonies. Graduating candidates and guests will be directed to park at Structure C and Lot 5. Shuttles will be available to transport students and guests from the parking areas to the University Gymnasium. Visit the Commencement map to see parking areas and other venues.
