As you know, Cal State L.A. and the 23 campuses of the California State University system have endured devastating state budget cuts over the past several years. In fact, in the past 18 months alone, funding to the CSU has been reduced by $750 million. In spite of these budget challenges, Cal State L.A. remains firmly committed to your academic success.
As co-chairs overseeing enrollment management at Cal State L.A., we would like you to know that we are taking additional steps to serve the students who are here and are faced with the very real challenges of the state’s budget cuts. A major step is to offer more than 1,000 course sections this summer, before CSU tuition increases go into effect in the fall. The summer schedule is designed with the needs of our continuing students as the highest priority. Students who have paid for more than 6 units will be allowed to register for up to 17 units during Phase 1 registration.
It is our hope that this summer quarter will help you move forward in taking the classes you need for your degree, while also allowing you to take advantage of the lower tuition. Information about the summer 2012 term, for which financial aid will be available, is at www.calstatela.edu/LASummer. Registration for summer quarter begins May 1.
The faculty, staff, and administrators are working closely to cope with state budget cuts to Cal State L.A. and finding ways to offer the courses that students need. We are dedicated to helping you graduate in a timely manner, and we will continue to do the best we can to support you during these challenging times.
