The federally funded -TRIO program, Educational Talent Search (FETS) encourages students in grades six through twelve. In addition to counseling, participants receive information about college admissions requirements, scholarships and various college financial assistance programs. The early intervention component helps participants better understand their educational opportunities and options. In addition to tutoring, participants receive mentor experiences with college students.
Each year a minimum of 1100 promising youth are identified and enrolled in FETS each year. The University sponsors a series of programs to help low-income residents enter college and graduate. Over 1,200 colleges, universities, community colleges and agencies now offer TRIO programs in America. TRIO funds are distributed to institutions from the U.S. Department of Education through competitive grants.
